Lawyers for Hiroki Gomi, a Japanese news photographer facing jail in Jordan over an airport explosion caused by a bomb he thought was spent and was carrying as a souvenir from Iraq, said Tuesday they have asked the king of Jordan for clemency.
The 36-year-old former photographer for the major Japanese daily the Mainichi Shimbun, faces 18 months in jail for the May 1 explosion at Amman airport, which killed one airport security guard and injured five others.
